The blogosphere is filled with travel blogs containing the rants and musings of people from all around the world. Some are set up to entertain friends and family while others evolve into candid authorities on where to go and what to do on your hols.
The best blogs combine inspirational travel writing with unique images and fun stories. They’re also beautifully laid out and easy to navigate.
We love people who love travel, so every month we’re going to celebrate our favourite blogs to read and travel writing in the monthly blogger round up.
Blog of the month
Nellie Huang from wildjunket.com would be the perfect travelling partner. She’s up for trying out adventure sports, likes a drink and has some incredible stories to tell to keep you busy on those long bus journeys.
Nellie’s originally from Singapore but has found her home in Spain. She’s been blogging for almost 4 years now and as well as her comprehensive and fun blog she’s also been published in several magazines. When it comes to travelling she knows the best places to go and what to do while you’re there.
Why we like it…
- She updates regularly
- Great layout for navigating and she’s just published a post saying it’s due to get even better
- Lots of excellent photos
- She doesn’t just write about her experiences but also has some funny posts in there too
- Insightful, personal blog posts that help you get to know her, and really like her.
If you need some inspiration to get your walking shoes on check out her post on the most famous walking trails in the world. Or if eating, or salivating over photos, is more your thing check out her piece on street food in Seoul. And, if you’re the soppy sort, like me, check out how her husband proposed.
More good reads…
Beersandbeans.com is another favourite here at HostelBookers. Travel bloggers Randy and Beth come together as the perfect team with their professional photography and blogging skills. They offer money-saving tips as well as interesting and intelligent guest posts and a brilliant photo gallery.
If you’re looking for a round up of useful travel information in one place visit Traveldudes.org. It’s written ‘for travellers, by travellers’, allowing you to join the online community and share your knowledge. You can start your blog on the site and scour other peoples’ to get insider information on your chosen destination.
June’s best articles
It’s amazing what you can find on the internet – this week we have been mostly remembering nights of a few too many with this article on the history of tequila. Read it and wow your fact-loving mates next time the salt and lemon come round.
Photography fans should check out these creepy/amazing pics of the ruined Six Flags Magic Mountain in New Orleans. Looks like the perfect location for a creepy zombie movie to us…
And this article by the Everywhereist on the Zeus-like man who managed to sleep his way through screaming babies, rumbling beverage carts and noisy speaker announcements made us laugh, a lot.
What about us?
This month we’ve had some great guest blog posts — JoAnna Haugen from WhyGoVegas revealed the 5 Top Cheap Things to Do in Vegas and Madeleine Wilson recounted her wet and windy travels through Sicily (part 1 and part 2).
It’s also gay pride season so we compiled the definitive guides to all the prides going on around the world. America’s celebrations have finished for this year, but you can still make it to all the fun of Gay Pride Europe.
And of course, the Wimbledon Tennis Championships have already started, but who will win? And more importantly, how will you get to see all the action? Check out our guide to the whole event and Where to Watch Wimbledon in London.
One last blog post of joy
Well, someone could’ve told me before.
